Neuromodulators relax the specific muscles responsible for the lines you see at rest and in motion. When placed well, the result is not a frozen face. It is your face, moving freely, without the lines accumulating between appointments. Natural, consistent, and calibrated to you.
What Neuromodulators Actually Do
Neuromodulators work by temporarily blocking the nerve signal to specific muscles. Without the signal, the muscle relaxes. Without the muscle contracting repeatedly, the lines it was folding into your skin stop deepening and, over time, begin to soften.
The lines that respond best are the ones caused by movement: the forehead lines that form when you raise your brows, the glabellar lines between your brows from frowning, the crow's feet from squinting and smiling. These are called dynamic lines. Lines that are present even at complete rest have a static component that neuromodulators soften but may not fully erase on their own — fillers address the static depth while neuromodulators prevent further deepening.
The skill is entirely in the placement. Too much product in the wrong place produces the frozen, heavy, or dropped-brow results that have made some people wary of the treatment. Placed thoughtfully, at the right dose for your anatomy, the result reads as refreshed — not treated.
Dynamic lines appear with movement and are directly caused by muscle contraction. Static lines are present at rest — a result of cumulative folding over time. Neuromodulators address dynamic lines most directly; treating them early prevents static lines from forming.
Muscle strength, skin thickness, metabolism, and facial anatomy all affect how neuromodulators perform. Two people receiving the same dose in the same area can have different durations and slightly different results. This is why your injector assesses your anatomy first — product is prescribed around your face, not around a standard protocol.
The most impactful time to begin neuromodulator treatment is before static lines form. Patients who maintain consistent treatment in their 20s and early 30s often require less product over time because the lines never had the chance to deepen. Starting later still produces meaningful results, but prevention is always easier than correction.
Neuromodulators and fillers serve different functions and pair exceptionally well: neuromodulators relax the muscles producing lines, fillers restore the volume loss underneath them. Treatment Areas
Neuromodulators treat more areas than most people realize. Beyond the classic forehead and crow's feet, skilled placement can lift the brow, refine the jaw, address the neck, and even resolve excessive sweating.
The horizontal lines across the forehead caused by raising the eyebrows. Among the most commonly treated areas — and one where conservative dosing matters most, because overtreating can cause brow heaviness. Your injector will assess your brow position and muscle strength before treating to ensure the outcome lifts rather than drops.
The vertical lines between the eyebrows from frowning or concentrating — commonly called the "11s" for the two parallel lines they often produce. One of the highest-impact treatment areas because these lines can give an unintended expression of frustration or seriousness even at rest. Typically the highest-priority area for new patients.
The radiating lines at the outer corners of the eyes from squinting and smiling. A well-treated crow's foot still allows natural smiling — the muscle isn't eliminated, just softened enough that the lines no longer etch themselves in. Dysport® is particularly well-suited here because of its natural spread across the orbicularis oculi muscle.
Strategic placement of a small amount of neuromodulator just below the lateral brow relaxes the depressor muscle that pulls the brow down — allowing the elevator muscles to lift the brow tail upward. A subtle but meaningful change that opens the eye and restores a more alert, youthful brow position without surgery.
A small amount placed in the orbicularis oris muscle just above the upper lip causes the lip edge to relax and roll slightly outward — producing the appearance of a fuller upper lip without filler. An excellent option for patients who want subtle upper lip enhancement, or who want to address an upper lip that disappears when smiling.
The diagonal lines that appear on the sides of the nose when scrunching or laughing. Often become more prominent after treating the glabella — because the muscle that was contributing to the 11s begins to express movement through the nose instead. Treating bunny lines alongside the glabella produces a more complete result.
Injecting the masseter muscle — the large chewing muscle at the sides of the jaw — reduces its size over several weeks as the muscle atrophies from disuse. Produces a slimmer, more oval lower face and significantly reduces teeth grinding (bruxism) and jaw clenching. One of our most transformative non-facial-line applications.
Also reduces jaw pain, headaches, and tooth wear from bruxismThe mentalis muscle, when overactive, creates a pebbled or "orange peel" texture on the chin. A small amount of neuromodulator smooths this texture and relaxes a chin that protrudes or dimples when the face is at rest. Often done alongside filler or on its own as part of a lower-face refinement plan.
The platysma muscle of the neck develops vertical banding with age that pulls the lower face downward. Treating these bands relaxes the downward pull, softening the banding itself and producing a subtle lifting effect on the lower face and jawline. The Nefertiti lift uses neuromodulator strategically placed along the jawline and into the neck bands.
FDA-cleared for primary axillary hyperhidrosis — excessive underarm sweating that is not controlled by antiperspirant. Neuromodulator injected into the sweat glands of the underarm blocks the nerve signal that triggers perspiration. Results typically last 6–12 months and are consistently among the highest-satisfaction applications of neuromodulators we perform.

Dysport is manufactured by Galderma, the same company behind Sculptra and Restylane. It has been FDA-cleared since 2009 and has a long clinical track record. The formulation behaves differently from BOTOX in ways that — for the areas we most commonly treat — tend to produce a result that reads as more natural and more expressive than the alternatives.
The patients who book again most consistently at Le Sommet are the ones who discover Dysport for the first time and notice that they look refreshed rather than treated. That is the result this product, placed well, produces reliably.
Many patients notice Dysport beginning to work within 1–2 days. BOTOX typically takes 5–7 days before results appear. For patients who want to see results before a specific event or who prefer early feedback, this difference is meaningful.
Dysport's smaller protein size allows it to spread slightly more than BOTOX across the treatment area. In large areas like the forehead and crow's feet, this produces a softer, more uniform result without the risk of sharp edges or visible delineation between treated and untreated tissue.
Product consistency matters when you're treating faces. Dysport lots are reliably consistent in potency, which means predictable outcomes and a lower risk of unexpected variability between appointments.

The newest FDA-approved neuromodulator and the longest-lasting available, with duration of up to 6–9 months for many patients — roughly twice the typical BOTOX duration. Daxxify is formulated without human albumin, using a proprietary peptide stabilizer. An excellent option for patients who want to reduce the frequency of appointments.
Known as the "naked" neuromodulator — Xeomin is formulated without accessory proteins, which some providers believe reduces the risk of developing resistance over time. A strong choice for patients who have used BOTOX for many years and feel their response has diminished, as the cleaner formula may restore full responsiveness.
