Even skin tone isn't
out of reach.
It just needs
the right approach.

Melasma, dark spots, post-acne marks, and sun damage are among the most frustrating skin concerns — because the wrong treatments can make them worse. At Le Sommet we select treatments specifically for pigment type, skin tone, and your individual history to get results that last.

Understanding Pigmentation

Not All Pigment Is the Same — and the Wrong Treatment Can Worsen It

Melasma is hormonally driven pigmentation — triggered by pregnancy, hormonal contraception, and sun exposure. It's distinctive in its symmetrical, patch-like distribution and its tendency to deepen with heat. This is critical: heat-based treatments like lasers can worsen melasma significantly. Chemical peels, microneedling, and brightening-focused facials are safer and often more effective.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is the dark mark left behind after acne, injury, or inflammation. It's more responsive to treatment than melasma and improves reliably with consistent resurfacing and brightening protocols. Sun damage — flat brown spots from UV exposure — also responds well to clinical exfoliation and accelerated cell turnover.

The key with all pigmentation: consistency and patience. Results are real and achievable — but they require a series of treatments, not a single session. We build a realistic timeline at your consultation and commit to it with you.

What You Need to Know
Sun protectionSPF is non-negotiable during any pigmentation treatment program. UV exposure undoes brightening results faster than any treatment can produce them
Safe for all tonesOur approach — chemical peels, microneedling, HydraFacial — is appropriate for darker skin tones that cannot safely undergo laser treatment
4–6 sessionsMost melasma and established hyperpigmentation requires a series of treatments for visible, lasting improvement — not a one-time fix
How We Treat It

Pigmentation Treatments at Le Sommet

Resurfacing · First-Line Treatment
Chemical Peels

Chemical peels accelerate cell turnover, removing the pigmented surface cells and triggering renewal of fresh, more evenly toned skin. We choose from brightening, clarifying, corrective, and resurfacing formulas based on your pigment type, depth, and skin tone. For melasma, we work conservatively — selecting peels that improve without triggering inflammation that could worsen the condition. For sun damage and PIH, deeper peels produce more significant improvement more quickly.

HydraFacial™ Brightening Booster

The HydraFacial's resurfacing peel step removes surface pigment while the brightening booster delivers vitamin C, kojic acid, and botanical brighteners directly into freshly cleared pores. Zero downtime, immediate luminosity improvement, and a monthly maintenance treatment that compounds over time. Particularly effective for clients who need consistent pigment maintenance without the recovery windows that peels require.

Microneedling

By triggering deep collagen production and accelerated cell turnover, microneedling addresses pigmentation from within — replacing old, pigment-heavy cells with fresh ones while improving overall skin quality. One of the safest options for clients with darker skin tones who cannot safely use laser or intense pulsed light. Adding PRP provides additional growth factor stimulation that further supports skin renewal and evening of tone.

"Melasma requires patience and the right tools. Heat makes it worse. Consistency makes it better. We plan the approach carefully from day one."

Questions

Common Questions

Will my melasma come back after treatment?+
Melasma is a chronic condition with a hormonal and UV component — which means it can recur if the underlying triggers (sun exposure, hormonal fluctuations) are not managed. Treatment produces real, visible improvement, but maintenance matters. Consistent SPF use is the single most important thing you can do to extend your results. Many clients maintain their improvement with monthly HydraFacial sessions and a good at-home brightening routine between more intensive treatments.
Why aren't you recommending laser for my pigmentation?+
Laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) generate heat that can worsen melasma specifically — by triggering additional melanin production as a protective response. For sun damage and PIH in lighter skin tones, laser can be effective. For melasma, and for most pigmentation concerns in medium to darker skin tones, chemical peels and microneedling are safer and consistently produce better outcomes without the risk of rebound darkening.
How long before I see a noticeable difference?+
For sun damage and post-acne pigmentation: many clients notice improvement after 2–3 treatment sessions. For melasma: improvement is typically gradual and visible at 4–6 sessions of consistent treatment. Results continue to improve between appointments as cell turnover proceeds — which is why regular monthly treatment produces better cumulative results than sporadic intensive sessions. We'll set realistic expectations at your consultation based on your specific pigment type.
