Let's Talk About It

The Conversation Most Women Aren't Having — But Should Be

Urinary incontinence — leaking when you laugh, sneeze, cough, exercise, or feel an urgent need to go — is one of the most common health concerns women face. Estimates suggest it affects 1 in 3 women at some point in their lives. And yet it remains one of the least discussed, most quietly endured conditions in women's health.

Most women assume it's simply part of aging. Part of having had children. Something to manage with pads, planned bathroom visits, and avoided activities — not something that can be meaningfully treated without medication, surgery, or years of imperfect Kegel routines.

That assumption is wrong. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles like any other — and like any other muscles, they can be strengthened. What EMSELLA® does is apply that principle at a depth and intensity that no voluntary exercise can achieve, producing real, measurable results in a matter of weeks.

At Le Sommet, we want this to be a comfortable conversation from the first word. You're not alone in this, and you deserve a treatment that meets the significance of the problem.

1 in 3
Women experience urinary incontinence

It is not rare. It is not unusual. It is extraordinarily common — and it is chronically undertreated because most women never discuss it with their provider.

80%
Of cases are never treated

The majority of women who experience incontinence never seek treatment — citing embarrassment, lack of awareness, or the belief that nothing can be done. There is something that can be done.

67%
Of treated patients reduced or eliminated pad use

In a BTL clinical study, 67% of participants decreased or eliminated their use of incontinence pads following EMSELLA® treatment. 95% reported improved quality of life.

The Technology

What Is EMSELLA® and How Does It Work?

EMSELLA® is an FDA-cleared therapeutic device developed by BTL Aesthetics — the same company behind EMSCULPT NEO® and EMFACE®. It uses High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to stimulate deep, powerful contractions throughout the entire pelvic floor musculature — muscles that Kegel exercises can only partially engage, and that most women have never been able to fully activate through voluntary effort alone.

The treatment is delivered through a specially designed chair. You sit on it, fully clothed, for 28 minutes while the device generates thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor contractions — the equivalent of 11,200 Kegel exercises — in a single session. There is no undressing, no internal components, and no physical contact beyond sitting in the chair.

These contractions re-educate and strengthen the muscles responsible for bladder control, restore neuromuscular coordination, and over a recommended series of six sessions, produce meaningful, lasting improvement in pelvic floor strength and urinary continence.

The Technology
HIFEM™ Electromagnetic Stimulation

The same HIFEM technology that powers EMSCULPT NEO® — but precisely calibrated to penetrate deep into the pelvic floor, stimulating the full spectrum of pelvic musculature including the muscles that control the bladder, urethra, and pelvic organs. Each contraction is a supramaximal event — stronger than any voluntary contraction you can produce — and 11,200 of them occur in a single 28-minute session.

The Experience
Fully Clothed. Completely Dignified.

You sit in the EMSELLA® chair exactly as you are — no changing, no disrobing, no internal applicators. The chair's electromagnetic field passes through clothing and tissue to reach the pelvic floor. You'll feel rhythmic contractions and a tingling sensation throughout the session. Most clients read, use their phone, or simply rest. It is, by design, a completely unintimidating experience.

"The advantage of the HIFEM technology with EMSELLA® is that it delivers the energy to the entire pelvic floor and beyond — not just the muscles a patient can consciously contract."

Who We Help

Conditions We Treat

EMSELLA® addresses a range of pelvic floor conditions — from the most common forms of urinary incontinence to postpartum recovery and menopausal pelvic health changes. If you recognize yourself in any of the following, this treatment was designed for you.

✦ Stress Urinary Incontinence

Leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh, jump, run, or lift. Caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles that can no longer fully support the bladder under physical pressure. This is the most common form of incontinence and the condition for which EMSELLA® received its original FDA clearance. Most clients with stress incontinence see meaningful improvement within their treatment series.

Most Common · FDA-Cleared Indication
✦ Urge Urinary Incontinence

A sudden, intense urge to urinate that is difficult or impossible to suppress — sometimes accompanied by leaking before reaching the restroom. Often called "overactive bladder," urge incontinence is driven by an overactive detrusor muscle and reduced neuromuscular coordination in the pelvic floor. EMSELLA® helps restore the neuromuscular control that moderates these involuntary contractions.

Overactive Bladder · Urge Leakage
✦ Mixed Incontinence

A combination of both stress and urge incontinence — leaking during physical activity and also experiencing sudden urgency. Mixed incontinence is very common and can feel especially disruptive, as it limits both exercise and everyday activities simultaneously. EMSELLA® addresses the underlying muscular weakness and neuromuscular dysfunction that drive both components.

Both Stress & Urge Components
✦ Postpartum Pelvic Floor Recovery

Childbirth — vaginal or cesarean — places significant stress on the pelvic floor, causing muscle stretching, nerve disruption, and a loss of structural support that can persist for months or years postpartum. Many women accept this as a permanent consequence of motherhood. EMSELLA® provides the deep muscular re-education that restores pelvic floor integrity far more effectively than voluntary exercise alone.

Postpartum Recovery · Muscle Rehabilitation
✦ Menopausal Pelvic Health

The estrogen decline of perimenopause and menopause affects pelvic floor tissue directly — reducing muscle strength, tissue elasticity, and neuromuscular control. Many women who had no incontinence before menopause develop it during this transition. EMSELLA® strengthens the pelvic floor at exactly the time when hormonal changes are reducing its natural resilience, providing meaningful support through and beyond the menopausal transition.

Perimenopause · Postmenopause
✦ Pelvic Floor Strengthening & Wellness

Not all EMSELLA® clients come in with incontinence. Many seek treatment proactively — for general pelvic floor strengthening, improved intimate wellness, or simply to address the subtle changes in pelvic strength that come with aging and physical activity. A strong, well-functioning pelvic floor supports not just continence but overall core stability, athletic performance, and intimate health at every stage of life.

Why It Works

The Benefits of EMSELLA® Treatment

✦
Reaches What Kegels Cannot

Voluntary Kegel exercises engage only a portion of the pelvic floor musculature — and most people perform them incorrectly. EMSELLA® stimulates the entire pelvic floor, including deep stabilizing muscles that no voluntary exercise can adequately target, producing stronger and more comprehensive strengthening in 6 sessions than years of Kegel routines.

✦
Fully Clothed, Completely Non-Invasive

No undressing, no internal applicators, no physical discomfort beyond the sensation of muscle contractions. You sit in the chair fully clothed for 28 minutes. This is, by design, the most dignified pelvic floor treatment available — and it's one of the most effective.

✦
FDA-Cleared with Clinical Proof

EMSELLA® holds FDA 510(k) clearance as a nonimplanted electrical continence device. Clinical studies show 95% of treated patients reported improved quality of life and 67% reduced or eliminated pad usage — outcomes that reflect genuine, meaningful change in how these patients live.

✦
Zero Downtime

Sessions are 28 minutes. You leave immediately afterward with no recovery period, no restrictions, and no changes to your routine. Most clients schedule sessions during a lunch break, between errands, or before picking up kids from school.

✦
Results That Build Session Over Session

Many patients notice improvement after their very first session. Results build progressively across the recommended series of six treatments, with peak improvement typically observed several weeks after the final session as the neuromuscular strengthening continues to develop.

✦
A Non-Surgical Alternative

For patients considering surgical intervention for incontinence — slings, bladder neck suspension, or other procedures — EMSELLA® represents a meaningful, clinically proven non-surgical option worth exhausting before pursuing more invasive approaches. We always recommend discussing with your gynecologist or urogynecologist as part of a comprehensive care plan.

What To Expect

What to Expect from EMSELLA®

Six sessions. Twenty-eight minutes each. A treatment course that most patients complete in three weeks. Here is exactly what it looks like.

01First Step
Your Consultation

We begin with a thorough, private consultation — your symptoms, their severity, when they started, what makes them better or worse, and how they've affected your daily life. There are no embarrassing questions here; this conversation is the foundation of your treatment plan. We'll also review your medical history, current medications, and confirm whether EMSELLA® is appropriate for your specific situation. For patients who are candidates, we'll outline a treatment schedule and realistic expectations before you commit to anything.

There's nothing you need to do to prepare for your first EMSELLA® session. Wear comfortable clothing and arrive as you normally would — no dietary restrictions, no topical preparation, nothing special required.
02Your Sessions
28 Minutes in the Chair

You sit in the EMSELLA® chair, fully clothed, and the session begins. You'll feel rhythmic tingling and pelvic muscle contractions that gradually build in intensity over the first few minutes as the system warms up and calibrates to your tissue. The sensation is unusual at first — your muscles are contracting involuntarily, and at an intensity most people have never experienced voluntarily — but the vast majority of clients describe it as tolerable to comfortable, and many read or use their phone throughout. The recommended course is six sessions, scheduled twice a week for three weeks.

Intensity is always adjustable. We start conservatively at your first session and increase gradually across the series as your muscles adapt and strengthen.
03After Each Session
Back to Your Day, Immediately

You walk out of each session and return immediately to everything on your calendar — work, exercise, errands, family. There are no restrictions, no recovery period, and no visible signs that you've had a treatment. Some patients experience mild muscle fatigue in the pelvic region for a few hours — similar to the feeling after a workout — which is entirely normal and a sign the muscles have been genuinely activated. This typically resolves within 24 hours.

04The Results
Improvement That Builds Over Time

Many patients notice some improvement after their first or second session — a reduction in the frequency or severity of leakage, improved urgency control, or greater confidence in physical activity. The most significant and measurable results develop over the weeks following the final session, as the neuromuscular strengthening process completes and the pelvic floor consolidates its gains. Clinical studies show maintained results at 6 months post-treatment. We schedule a follow-up check-in after your final session to assess your outcomes and discuss whether maintenance sessions are appropriate.

Many patients find that one to two maintenance sessions every 6–12 months helps sustain their results — particularly as ongoing hormonal changes or life events continue to affect the pelvic floor.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the treatment really fully clothed? Nothing is internal?+
Yes — completely. You sit in the EMSELLA® chair exactly as you arrive. There is no changing, no gown, no internal applicators, and no physical contact beyond the chair itself. The electromagnetic field generated by the chair passes through your clothing and tissue to stimulate the pelvic floor. This is a fundamental part of why patients find it so accessible — it removes every barrier of vulnerability from the experience.
Does it hurt?+
Most patients describe the sensation as tingling combined with strong, rhythmic pelvic muscle contractions — intense and unusual, but not painful. The intensity is fully adjustable and is always started conservatively, building across the series as your muscles adapt. Patients who come in expecting discomfort are often genuinely surprised by how manageable the experience is. If at any point the sensation becomes too intense, your clinician will reduce it immediately.
How quickly will I see results?+
Many patients notice some improvement after their first or second session — particularly in the frequency or urgency of leakage episodes. The most significant results develop progressively across and beyond the full 6-session course, with peak improvement typically occurring several weeks after the final session as the pelvic floor neuromuscular strengthening consolidates. Clinical studies show maintained results at 6 months post-treatment for most patients.
How many sessions do I need?+
The standard recommended course is 6 sessions, scheduled twice per week for 3 weeks. This cadence is clinically validated and allows each session to build on the last while giving the pelvic floor time to respond and strengthen between treatments. Some patients with more significant or longstanding pelvic floor weakness benefit from additional sessions or a second course. Maintenance sessions of 1–2 per year help sustain results over time, particularly as ongoing hormonal changes continue to affect the pelvic floor.
I've had a baby recently. How soon can I start?+
We generally recommend waiting until your 6-week postpartum clearance has been received from your OB or midwife, and that any perineal tears, episiotomies, or cesarean incisions are fully healed. Once you have been cleared for exercise by your provider, EMSELLA® is typically appropriate. Earlier is generally better for postpartum pelvic floor rehabilitation — the sooner the muscles begin active re-education, the better the recovery trajectory. We'll review your birth history carefully at your consultation.
Can EMSELLA® help with intimate wellness, not just incontinence?+
Research into EMSELLA®'s effects on intimate wellness is ongoing and encouraging. Several studies examining pelvic floor rehabilitation with HIFEM technology have noted improvements in sexual satisfaction and intimate function alongside incontinence improvement — an outcome that makes physiological sense given the pelvic floor's role in intimate health. We discuss this honestly at consultation based on your specific goals, while being transparent about where the clinical evidence is robust versus still developing.
Should I tell my gynecologist I'm doing this?+
Yes, and we encourage it. EMSELLA® is a complementary, non-invasive treatment that works well alongside the care of your gynecologist or urogynecologist — it's not a replacement for your medical provider. If you're already working with a specialist on incontinence, EMSELLA® can meaningfully enhance your overall care plan. If you've been experiencing incontinence but haven't yet discussed it with your doctor, this is a good reason to do both. We're happy to provide documentation of your treatment if your provider would like it.
Does insurance cover EMSELLA®?+
EMSELLA® is generally considered elective and is not covered by most insurance plans at this time. We offer transparent pricing and package rates for the recommended 6-session course. Some clients submit receipts to HSA or FSA accounts for reimbursement — check with your plan administrator regarding coverage for therapeutic pelvic floor treatments. We're happy to provide itemized receipts for this purpose.
